#ThisIsMyRide by Zulhilman Yusof
“This Is My Ride” is a series where we share the most memorable, unique, or challenging rides from our community. Maybe it’s a first century ride, an epic climb, or a regular Sunday ride with friends: we want to hear about that special something which makes this particular ride epic for you – and your Argon 18. Want to share your ride? Email us at marketing.web@argon18.com.
I started cycling because I wasn’t able to take part in many other sports, due to ACL injuries, but I definitely didn’t want to give up sports altogether. I instantly felt connected to cycling. After a year with my first road bike I decided I needed a lighter and more comfortable ride. I went to an Argon 18 shop in Kuala Lumpur, where the owner was very helpful in getting me on a bike that suited my riding style - and my budget. I left with an Argon 18 GO!. The second time I went to the store, I upgraded to a Gallium CS – I couldn’t resist the temptation 😉
Honestly, this bike is perfect for me. Its responsiveness on climbs is amazing, so it really suits the type of riding I do. Usually on weekends, my wife and I go to Hulu Langat where the climbs are quite challenging. We also often ride from our home to the well-known Genting Peras climb (an ascent of 450 meters). Weekends in Genting Peras are quite the event – there are always many cyclists that have come from other countries to gather and conquer Genting Peras, like we are at a race! I personally prefer to ride while enjoying nature, sightseeing in the countryside, which releases some work stress in my mind.
I’m managing to get more and more of my family into cycling – and into the Argon 18 family. My wife finds that the Argon 18 GO! really suits her because she prefers long distances on flat roads. Sometimes both of us go for a 120km ride from our home to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), a loop which is challenging due to hot weather and heavy traffic. I even suggested Argon 18 to my brother-in-law and we even joined an event with the TSG cycling team (Terengganu Cycling Team) early this year (February, 2020). The three of us make a pretty good Argon 18 Team.
Our next plan is an endurance ride, maybe try joining Audax, or even taking a trip back to our hometown, which is almost 450km away. Our main constraint now is time… we both are busy with work and family but we try our best to steal some time and make every ride a memorable one. My wife and I actually treat our rides as our alone time and enjoy being together. Every ride is a date ride 😉
